Tirupati
- Chandragiri Fort -Ph:0877-2272249

Chandragiri
(Lat.130.35’N, Long. 790.19’E) denoting the ‘Hill of the
Moon’. God is believed to have performed penance at this
place for pleasing Lord Shiva. It is located 14 kms south of
the famous Hindu pilgrimage centre of Tirupati.
The
empire contributed vastly to Telugu culture, art &
literature. The surrounding country is fertile &
picturesque - with interesting archaeological remains -
temples, reservoirs & finely carved ‘mantapams’. The
last capital of Vijayanagar kings was Chandragiri on the banks
of River Swarnamukhi in Chittoor District. Ruins of the fort
exist to this day & amidst them stand the Raja Mahal &
Rani Mahal palaces that have been given a facelift. The fort
atop a huge rock that stands 56 meters tall is just 12 kms
from the temple town of Tirupati. AP Tourism has put together
a unique Son-et-Lumiere at Chandragiri to relive the glory of
the Vijayanagar Empire. The power & glory of the
Vijayanagar Empire is presented through this exciting Sound
& Light Show.
After a hectic trip to temples & shrines in & around
Tirupati, it is time for the much-needed relaxation at
Chandragiri, a perfect way to round off the day. The show was
commissioned in May 2000.
