SRISAILAM
: Apart
from the privilege of being one of the 12 Jyotirlingas,
Srisailam lays claim to significant references in may ancient
texts, beginning from Vyasa's epic, Mahabaharata. In 'Vana
Parvata” of Mahabharata, it is said that Siva abids with
Paravati in Srisailam and that Brahma also stays there there
along with other Gods. Adi Sankara (500 BC) proclaims in his
Dwadasa linga Stotra that the presiding deity at Srisailam,
Lord Mallikarajuna, helps men cross the ocean of attachment (samarsa).
Siva's consort Bhramaramba is hailed by Sankara as “Divine
and auspicious mother, Gayatri, daughter of the
Himalayas
and as one worshipped by
Ganga
, Gowtami and Garga.”
Two
striking features of Srisailam are the numerous reliefs carve
on stone, which adorn the parkaras rising to a height of 20 ft
and huge compound wall. Another 'Unusual' feature of the
temple is free access to people of all castes for the main
temple where they can even touch the Sivalinga. Srisalam
Project, one of the biggest hydel projects, with the dam
stretching 512 metres. How to reach: located 180 kms from

, it is well connected by road & rail.
