East Godavari
, the rice bowl of Andhra Pradesh, beckons tourists to have a

herald the dawn. where the chirping birds and gurgling streams

Godavari Pushkaram
is celebrated once every 12 years at Pushkara Tirtham, near
Rajahmundry
. Legend has it that when sage Gautama was doing penance on the
Brahmagiri hill a severe famine occurred in the village. The sage by
his divine power relieved the people of this famine. Since then
these Pushkarams are being celebrated to commemorate the end of this
serious famine. During the 12 days of Pushkaram, Pujas are performed
after taking a dip in the river
Godavari
. In the year 2003 Godavari Pushkaram will be held from 30th July to
10th August.

Kotilingalarevu
: This is a ferry
point at
Rajahmundry
to cross the
Godavari
, with beautifully built steps and bathing ghats all along the
riverbank. The Kotilingeshwara temple built in the 10th -11th
centuries is another attraction here.
Pithapura
: Located 20 Kms from
Kakinada
and 50 Kms from
Rajahmundry
, it is considered to be one of the 18 Shakthipithas in
India
. It is famous for the temples of Kukketeshwara Swamy, Kunthimadhava
Swamy and Pukutika Devi, built here during the 10th century A.D.
Kotipalle
: A holy pilgrim
center for Shaivites, it is located 45 Kms from
Kakinada
near Draksharamam. According to a legend, king Indra was cursed by
sage Gautama. To relieve himself of the curse he installed a
Shivalinga and anointed it with water from one crore rivers. Hence
thistemple is known as Kotililngeshwara temple. It is believed that
a holy dip in the river
Godavari
relieves one from all sins.
Annavaram
: Situated 32 Kms from Pithapuram, 51 Kms from
Kakinada
and 72 Kms from
Rajahmundry
, Annavaram is famous
for Lord Veera Venkata Satya
Narayana Swamy temple,
situated atop the Ratnagiri Hills on the banks of the river
Pampa
. One of the most popular temples in Andhra Pradesh, a unique Yantra
based on Tripad Vibhuti Narayan Upanishad exists here. The shrine is
constructed in two storeys, the
lower one containing the Yantra and upper one housing Vigrahas of
the Lord.
