VILLAGE TEMPLES : Going through the village, you come across temples like Venu Gopalaswamy temple with Lord Krishna as a goatherd being the presiding deity, a small temple dedicated to Satybhama (consort of Lord Krishna) and an old temple that is now being used as a marriage hall.

         

ANJANEYA SWAMY TEMPLE : The temple has at its entrance a Shiv ling brought by Baba from Kasi. The main idol of Hanuman stands inside a cave with water gathering at His feet.

MOSQUE : For the convenience of the local Muslim populace, Baba had a mosque and a hall constructed, which he inaugurated in 1978. Prayers are conducted here regularly.

     

DHARMAVARAM : Located 47 kms from Ananthapur, it has many historic temples such as the Sri Lakshmi Chenna Kesava Swamy Temple, Kota Chowdeswara Swamy Temple, Kashi Viswanadha Temple, Sri Bachchu Nagampally Viswanadha Temple, G.Y. Anjaneya Swamy Temple and Ganapathi Temple.

COOTY FORT : Here, apart from an ancient fort situated atop a hill, visitors can see a number of interesting temples. The Anjeneya Temple on the western side of town, the Nageswara Temple houses a black Siva Lingam in the sanctum sanctorum. The Lakshminarasimha Swamy Temple which has a 1.8 metre tall seated idol carved of black stone and the Ramaswamy Temple .

HEMAVATHI TEMPLES : Situated at a distance of 148 kms from Ananthapur; Hemavathi boasts of magnificent temples built by the Nolamba rulers around the 8th century AD. Among the noteworthy temples are Avani, Nandi, Bargur, Dharmapuri, Doddeshwara, Siddeshwara and Malikarjuna, which are acclaimed for their architectural grandeur and aesthetic appeal

PENNA AHOBILAM : 65 Kms from Ananthapur is this town which is renowned for the Adi Lakshmi Devi Temple and Chenchu Lakshmi Devi Temple . Festivals that are celebrated here with religious fervour  Include Krishnashtami in September, Ugadi in April, Brahmotsavam in March and Ratha Sapthami February.

Temple , which is a sterling example of the Vijayanagara style of architecture. Built in 1530 AD, it is famed for a huge lOO-pillared dance hall, adorned with exquisite sculptures, which has a 21' high dome reminiscent of a giant lotus. One can see a life-size granite sculpture of Veerabhadra, a giant monolith of Nandi as well as carvings of Naga Linga, flying Gandharvas, Ganesha etc. The 1 O-day Asvayuja Masam festival celebrated in February attracts tourists from far and wide. Special pujas are conducted every Monday.

RAYADURG : Famous for the impressive fort built in the Vijayanagara style of architecture, it is situated 130 kms from Ananthapur. Within the fort is the Rasasidhula Temple comprising a tower and 45 steps. It is beautifully adorned with sculptures and pictures of Jain Thirthankaras and their disciples. Two annual festivals draw a great number of visitors to the temple.

THIMMAMA MARRIMANU : The world's largest banyan tree, it is 550 years old and spreads over an are of 2.1 sq. kms., with 1100 Crop roots. Located 100 kms from Ananthapur, the annual 'jatara' organised on Shivaratri' day attracts thousands of pilgrims.

Located behind the Higher Secondary School. it overlooks a lush green hill on which there is a huge 65-foot tall statue of Hanuman and others of Buddha, Christ, Siva, Krishna , Mother Teresa and Zarathustra. Shanthi Vedika is an ornate structure where Baba sits to address the gathering or watch the events in the stadium. The Sports and Cultural Festival of the Schools and Colleges is held here on 11 th January every year. An international cricket pitch was laid in 1997 for the Sri Sathya Sai Unity Cup in which many prominent players from around the world participated. The stadium is not open to public except when in use.

SRI SATHYA SAI SPACE THEATRE : A small modern planetarium which provides a star field of 4054 images, including 88 recognised constellations and 57 navigational stars as well as globular and open clusters, the Milky Way, Magellanic clouds and nebulae of different types. With the aid of computer control and using 30 special effects projectors, almost celestial or meteorological observation can be reproduced on the indoor sky. This makes it an effective educational tool in enhancing understanding of basic concepts of Astronomy, Mathematics, Science and allied subjects apart from, of course, the sheer wonder of it all' The facility can be visited after obtaining an entry pass from the Public Relations Office.

THE ABODE OF SAI GITA : Sai Gita is the ceremonial elephant which was presented to Baba when she was a baby almost thirty years ago. An intelligent and sensitive animal. she is extremely fond of him. Her compound, with a stall and bathing pool. stands next to the planetarium.

BIRTHPLACE of SRI SATHYA SAI BABA : A Siva temple marks the birthplace of Baba in Puttaparthi village. This is because Baba was born on November 23rd, 1926 , a Karthika Somavara a day traditionally devoted to the worship of Siva. Sanctified by Baba in 1979, puja is performed here everyday at dawn and dusk. Legends of his birth and childhood leelas can be visualised here.
