WHAT
TO SEE INSIDE THE TOWNSHIP
SAMADHI
OF BABA'S PARENTS : The
mortal remains of Baba's parents are housed in a mausoleum off the
Main Road
, down
Samadhi Road
. It is made of black stone and always kept spotlessly clean. There
is also a white Ganesha idol nearby.

KALPA
VRUKSHA : A
'wish fulfilling tree", as the name suggests, this is a
tamarind tree where Baba had once performed a miracle by which
devotees could pluck the fruit of their choice from the tree. It
stands on the banks of the
Chitravathi
River
.

THE
ETERNAL
HERITAGE
MUSEUM
: A
beautiful museum dedicated to Man's eternal quest for realising the
inherent Divinity, it is spread over three floors. Teachings of the
Vedas, the Upanishads, the Gita and other religions, are all
depicted here. Miniature replicas of famous temples in
India
and around the world are on display. The eternal message of saints
and sages down the ages, about the oneness of religions, is brought
forth through models, writings, audio and video. Legends of Baba's
early life and his declaration of Avatarhood are emphasised. A
reading room on the second floor is well-stocked with a vast
collection of The
museum is open from
10 a.m
to
12 Noon
, every day of the week.
CHAITANYA
JYOTHI : This
is a museum dedicated to the
Mission
and Message of Sathya Sai Avatar, constructed to commemorate his
75th birthday. On display over 8 levels are many exhibits pertaining
to the life and teachings of Baba. The interesting architecture of
the building is a beautiful fusion of Chinese, Gothic and Moorish
styles.
SRI
SATHYA SAI HILL VIEW STADIUM : Located
behind the Higher Secondary School. it overlooks a lush green hill
on which there is a huge 65-foot tall statue of Hanuman and others
of Buddha, Christ, Siva,
Krishna
, Mother Teresa and Zarathustra. Shanthi Vedika is an ornate
structure where Baba sits to address the gathering or watch the
events in the stadium. The Sports and Cultural Festival of the
Schools and Colleges is held here on 11 th January every year. An
international cricket pitch was laid in 1997 for the Sri Sathya Sai
Unity Cup in which many prominent players from around the world
participated. The stadium is not open to public except when in use.
SRI
SATHYA SAI SPACE THEATRE : A
small modern planetarium which provides a star field of 4054 images,
including 88 recognised constellations and 57 navigational stars as
well as globular and open clusters, the Milky Way, Magellanic clouds
and nebulae of different types. With the aid of computer control and
using 30 special effects projectors, almost celestial or
meteorological observation can be reproduced on the indoor sky. This
makes it an effective educational tool in enhancing understanding of
basic concepts of Astronomy, Mathematics, Science and allied
subjects apart from, of course, the sheer wonder of it all' The
facility can be visited after obtaining an entry pass from the
Public Relations Office.
THE
ABODE OF SAI GITA : Sai
Gita is the ceremonial elephant which was presented to Baba when she
was a baby almost thirty years ago. An intelligent and sensitive
animal. she is extremely fond of him. Her compound, with a stall and
bathing pool. stands next to the planetarium.
BIRTHPLACE
of SRI SATHYA SAI BABA : A
Siva temple marks the birthplace of Baba in Puttaparthi village.
This is because Baba was born on
November 23rd, 1926
, a Karthika Somavara a day traditionally devoted to the worship of
Siva. Sanctified by Baba in 1979, puja is performed here everyday at
dawn and dusk. Legends of his birth and childhood leelas can be
visualised here.
